Week 11~ Learning about myself

Dear readers,

It feels like I haven't talked to you in a long time even though I posted my last blog just over 2 weeks ago. An I have to say that those 2 weeks have been busy.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been turning in projects I have been working on over the first quarter and I was assigned new ones too. The past two weeks have been personally rewarding as I was able to see a positive outcome from my work, research and outreach to employers in locations around the globe! And I have to say that I had a satisfactory feeling on that days. I have also been presenting the Global co-op program to different groups of students and been interacting a lot with them, and I believe that through that I have confidence and I have been able to acknowledge and strengthen some of my public speaking skills.

As I have been telling over the last couple of blogs and Vlogs, I am responsible for the Global Co-op Networking Fair at Northeastern, and planning a large student event, is something that requires a lot a logistic, thinking and interactions with different department of the university. I am happy to report that so far the planning of the event is going according to plan. I am really excited about running the event this Thursday and see what I have created along with a some other co-workers.

The start of the term as also seen  new student workers start in the department, I was in charge in some of the training as well as being available to answer some of the questions they may have. The start of the term is also leading to an increase pace at the career services front desk as more and more students are wanting there resume checked and are getting ready for the career fair coming up really soon.

I have been given a lot of responsibilities and special projects to undertake over the next couple of months, I will be in charge of creating a promotional video for the Global Employer Relations team as well as creating a video of Career Fair.

As I previously mentioned, I have been developing and strengthen my organizationals, events and time management skills tested out more but also showed me that I like to work in a fast paced environment. I however think that it will challenge me as I sometime find that intensive situation stress me. I think that I will learn more about my management skills and capability to meet deadlines and targets in an office environment.

To finish this chapter of my adventure at Northeastern here are the links of my latest two Vlog one about Portland and the other about our first baseball game

The beginning of Fall ~ Week 9

Hello everyone,

'Goodbye August, Hello September!' It is somehow hard to believe that we are already in September.

Last week of August

As we are now in September, we can see that a lot of things are changing on campus as students have started to move back. In Boston, September 1st marks the date where everyone is moving in and out of their accommodation also known here as 'Allston Christmas' as some people leave old furniture on the sidewalk for others to take if they want it.

As student start to get ready for the fall term, and the beginning of their classes, they seem to question themselves more about career as well as doing a global co-op. I have seen an increase in student events on campus, as well as more students are responsive to emails regarding the global co-op.

With one of the meeting I have attended this week, I have been able to identify some of the skills a team is looking for when the department needs to hire a new member. They are looking for someone to be open, a good listener, that can be a mentor for others but also be open to be taught what works in the department; people are also looking for someone that is nice, honest and transparent; teams are looking for someone who doesn't think that something is too low for them; looking for someone engaging, approchable, able to work in a fast past environment, that can be objective between propositions and that has good negotiation skills and that can be persuasive.

In the past couple of weeks I have seen an increase in my work-load once again. Employers are desirous to share their employment opportunities with our department or are eager to create co-op position and recruit students as soon as possible. This also means that employers will soon be campus to recruit students. Meaning that more students will be wanting appointment with career counsellors, meaning that the front desk duties are going to pick up.

This have seen my organizationals, events and time management skills tested out more but also showed me that I like to work in a fast paced environment. I however think that it will challenge me as I sometime find that intensive situation stress me, however I am looking forward to the next couple of weeks. I think that I will learn more about my management skills and capability to meet deadlines and targets in an office environment.

On the whole, September promises to be a very exciting month with students returning to campus, more employers interaction and more trips planned around the east cost.
